Voices From The Community is now a podcast that features jazz and international music designed to soothe the soul and stimulate the mind. I’m Bridget B., producer, host and the current writer of the posts you will see on this site.
My community radio work started at KBOO 90.7FM in Portland, Oregon, where I enhanced my audio skills and love for radio over a five-year period. Because of KBOO’s community radio focus, I was able to volunteer my time while learning what community radio was all about. Successes came with each step up through the ranks as a board operator, audio editor, producer and ultimately an on air host for both public affairs and music shows.
Upon moving to Charlotte, NC, I searched for a community radio station that had similar beliefs as KBOO and Plaza Midwood Community Radio (PMCRadio) was the only one that came close. Although my time with PMCRadio was brief, I discovered how easy it was to produce and broadcast shows with just a computer and the internet.
Now, my primary focus is to go live via a community-focused, internet radio station. I’m working at enhancing the quality of Voices From The Community while working with other community members who have an interest in launching Charlotte Community Radio. This new station will feature local, regional and global music, community focused talk shows, public affairs programming, and open forum discussions. We currently have our Steering Committee Members in place and will announce our operating location and open house details in the coming month.
